Is Coconut Considered A Fruit or A Nut?

The word coconut is acquired back in the 16th-century from Portuguese and Spanish word, coco. The word coco means "head" or "skull".

The term "coconut" can be referred to the whole coconut palm, the seed, or the fruit, which botanically is a drupe and not a nut.

A drupe or stone fruit is an indehiscent fruit, which has a single she'll on the outer part and has a kernel or seed inside. It has to be split along in a built-in line of weakness, usually in the middle in order to open the fruit.
